Communication Design professionals create powerful visual concepts using computer software and other equipment to inspire, inform, and connect with consumers. If you're creative and enjoy experimenting with color, typography, and photo editing techniques, Communication Design may suit you.

ECC's Communication Design Department encompasses two visual disciplines: Graphic Design (incorporating Web Design) and Video Motion Graphics Design. Experience hands-on learning in small classes using the same technology professionals use in the field. Industry-seasoned faculty will guide you as you learn best practices, techniques, and trends through real-world simulated projects. These hands-on experiences help you build a strong portfolio, preparing you for an exciting career in design. Upon completing your coursework, you'll be ready to enter the industry with confidence. If you're looking for even more experience, consider joining the Spartan Design Club. The club offers opportunities to work on design projects for real clients, further enhancing your skills.

Jumpstart your career and boost your earning potential with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design or Videography. If you're working in the field, enhance your skills with certificates in Adobe Creative Suite, Internet Design, and Video Motion Graphics. You can earn an Associate in Arts degree with electives in Communication Design, transferring to complete a bachelor’s degree.

Getting a job in Videography

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics video and motion graphic artists fall under the film and video editors and camera operators category. This job is projected to grow 12 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than average. About 9,400 job openings are projected each year, on average, over the next decade. (visited April 26, 202).

Employment for camera operators is expected to grow due to increased demand for online streaming and higher video production investments.

Getting a job as a Web Developer and Digital Designer

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for Web Designers is projected to grow 23 percent from 2021 to 2031, which is much faster than average. Roughly 21,800 job openings are projected each year, on average, over the decade. (visited April 26, 2023).

With online offerings and e-commerce continuing to grow, the demand for web designers will continue to increase.

Getting a job in Graphic Design

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for Graphic Designers is projected to grow by 3 percent from 2021 to 2031. Over the decade, about 24,800 job openings are projected for graphic designers each year. (visited April 26, 2023).
